Lorient supports Fire Door Safety Week 2025

As a leading manufacturer of high-performance sealing systems for fire doors, we’ve proudly supported the British Woodworking Federation’s Fire Door Safety Week campaign since its inception. Join us from 22nd - 26th September as we raise awareness about the crucial role fire doors play in saving lives and protecting property in the event of a fire.

Launched in response to a legacy of fire door neglect, Fire Door Safety Week (FDSW) is a mass-market awareness campaign created by the British Woodworking Federation. Backed by the Home Office’s National Fire Safety campaign, the National Fire Chiefs Council, and London Fire Brigade, FDSW aims to increase public understanding of the vital role fire doors play in saving lives and protecting property.

Why Fire Doors Matter

A fire door is an engineered safety device, forming a crucial part of passive fire protection in commercial, public, and multi-occupancy buildings. In everyday use, it functions like any door. But in the event of a fire, it performs a critical role: containing fire and smoke for a designated period of time, allowing safe evacuation, limiting property damage, buying time for emergency responders, and ultimately, saving lives.

A fire door is more than just a door, it’s a complete tested assembly comprising of:

• Door leaf
• Frame
• Glazing (if applicable)
• Intumescent fire & smoke seals
• Ironmongery, such as hinges, closers, locks & latches

Like fire alarms and extinguishers, fire doors require regular inspection and maintenance to perform as designed.

Why FDSW is Important

FDSW draws attention to specific issues such as:

• Poor installation
• Inadequate maintenance
• Lack of awareness about inspection responsibility

Everyone - from manufacturers to building owners and users has a role in ensuring fire doors work when needed most. Knowing what to look out for and how to report any issues, might just save a life.
