Lorient - proud sponsors of the GAI Education Awards 2015
Lorient was proud to sponsor the largest and most important event on the architectural ironmongery calendar – the prestigious Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) Education Awards in November. It was a fantastic turnout, with over 350 industry professionals gathering to celebrate the very best education achievements within the GAI.
The annual ceremony reflects the importance of the GAI’s education syllabus as the only recognised programme in the world to deliver architectural ironmongery qualifications to British and European standards.
A total of 126 students achieved GAI qualifications including our very own Simon Sutton, Acting National Sales Manager who received his GAI Diploma certificate; and the top 12 students were presented with awards during the glittering ceremony at the Lancaster Hotel, off London’s Hyde Park. The winners were presented with cash prizes, medals or shields by GAI President – Maria Powell, GAI education chairman, Andy Fitzgerald, and guest speaker, media personality, journalist and broadcaster, Janet Street-Porter.
As main sponsors of the event, our chosen theme ‘Rising Stars’ was created to showcase the achievements of GAI students, which proved a big hit. During the opening of the Awards ceremony Maria Powell set the scene: “Today we celebrate the rising stars of our industry – those who have committed to a journey of learning, personal development and professional excellence.”
New GAI Diploma holders were encouraged to highlight their achievements by writing their names alongside their qualifications on stars, which were emblazoned on a giant sparkling ‘Rising Star’ wall. A supersized gilt frame provided entertainment for those that wanted to capture the moment with a ‘selfie’. Also, each new Diploma holder received a personalised engraved keepsake gift from Lorient, which served as a permanent reminder of their accomplishments.
As well as honouring the industry’s brightest talents, the lunch was also a great networking opportunity. Take a look at some of our favourite images from the day.
