Lorient products feature in award winning project
The bi-annual Architectural Ironmongery Specification Awards recognise design excellence in architectural ironmongery specification projects and are awarded to the whole specification team of architect and architectural ironmonger, highlighting the importance of the partnership between these two professional disciplines.
Tung Fat Ho Building Material Ltd is a leading architectural ironmonger in Hong Kong; and a preferred supplier of Lorient Pacific’s range of acoustic, smoke and fire containment systems, designed, manufactured and supplied from the UK. Simon Leung (HKGCSMB-Vice Chairman) travelled from Hong Kong to London to attend the awards lunch held at The Oval.
Every other year the Guild of Architectural Ironmongery (GAI) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) come together to identify and reward excellence in the specification of architectural ironmongery at the Specification Awards. This year, Tung Fat Ho was awarded International Winner (sponsored by Samuel Heath) for their project: the Hong Kong Velodrome (HKV).The HKV in Tseung Kwan O, comprises a 250 metre long wooden cycling track, a multi-purpose area and a spectator stand for 3,000 people. It also includes a 6.87 hectare town park, which provides an excellent range of recreational facilities for Hong Kong residents.
Tung Fat Ho in partnership with the Architectural Services Department (ASD) and P&T Architects and Engineers Ltd specified Lorient’s sealing systems on many of the doorsets throughout the HKV to provide excellent resistance to airborne sound; and significantly improve the acoustic integrity of the doorsets – with performance ratings of 35dB Rw. Lorient’s highly regarded Batwing® perimeter seal along with the LAS8001 si drop seal were used for optimum acoustic performance in the media room, children’s play rooms, press conference room, band room and changing rooms to name but a few.
In addition, Lorient’s finger guard seals, which incorporate both the LAS9050 on the hinge knuckle side and the LAS9070 on the hinge cavity side were installed on the doorsets in the baby care rooms. These seals help to protect children from trapping their fingers in the gap between the hinged edge of a door (both sides) and the door frame.
Simon Leung, General Manager Tung Fat Ho said “We are genuinely honoured to be the winner of 2014/15 RIBA/GAI Specification Award – International Category for the Hong Kong Velodrome project. We enjoy working with Lorient, their comprehensive range of sealing systems are well respected in our market and are acknowledged for their quality and superior acoustic performance”.
