Lorient takes on the Ice Bucket Challenge for MNDA!
The Ice Bucket Challenge, where nominees agree to be soaked by ice cold water, went viral on social media during the summer. In the UK, many people participate for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
MND is a rapidly progressive and fatal disease, which can affect any adult at any time and attacks the motor neurones that send messages from the brain to the muscles, leaving people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves. The cause of the disease is unknown and there is no known cure. Around 5,000 people in the UK have MND at any one time, with half of people with the disease dying within 14 months of diagnosis. It kills five people every day in the UK.
Following nominations from friends, family or colleagues, nominees have just 24 hours to take on the Ice Bucket Challenge. On Monday 1st September, Maria Simmonds - MD , Tom Kingdon - FD and Ben Marchant - Production Manager took their seats and prepared for an icy soaking as part of this global campaign. Before getting doused by willing staff members, each of them nominated a further three people to take on the challenge and pledged their donations to MNDA.
