Upgrading Existing Fire-Rated Doors - Multiple Occupancy
Many older fire-rated doors may require upgrading to meet today's acoustic and smoke containment requirements. For multiple occupancy dwellings (including hotels, guest houses, nursing homes, etc) the new RRO (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order), effective from 1 October 2006, places the responsibility on building owners to ensure the fire rated doors in their buildings meet all the new requirements.
Where the door already contains an intumescent fire seal, Lorient offers straightforward solutions to enable this to be easily achieved - often without needing to remove the door.
Please note, if an existing fire seal (or combined fire & smoke seal) shows any sign of damage (including overpainting of a smoke seal), we would advise you to replace the entire seal with one of a similar type and size, in accordance with the door manufacturer's fire test evidence.
